magical floaty goodness via Tim Lytvinenko

I’m in Seattle (for the first time) for a week for a shoot and fun and I’m absolutely loving this lovely city.

But that’s not why I’m posting: I very rarely (maybe never before) link to other people’s work on this blog, but today I am making an exception. My friend and fellow photographer in Luceo Images made an ohso magical stop-motion video at Holden beach, just one of what will be a stop-motion video every day of his trip across the country.

What can I say? I love all of his stop-motion videos, but this one has just got me completely smiley and smitten.

Luceo Images: Biannual Meeting

Posted by admin on Monday Jun 22, 2009 Under Uncategorized, luceo

While there seems to be a lot of self-destruction in the newspaper industry and now the magazine industry is making cuts, it is such a comfort to be a part of a group of passionate photographers with similar goals and visions. Last week, following the Festival of the Photograph, Luceo Images had it’s biannual meeting. It was so good to be in a room with these guys again — our last meeting was in january in NYC — and though the meeting days were long, we have accomplished so much in the past 6 months and have so many exciting plans for the future.

These photographers inspire me and keep me ever-striving to keep par with them.

So, again, here is Luceo Images: Matt Eich (Eastern Seaboard), Tim Lytvninenko (Eastern Seaboard), Kevin German (Southeast Asia), David Banks (Southeast) and Matt Slaby (Rocky Mountain West/Latin America)… oh and y’know, lil ole me.

To keep up to date with Luceo Images happenings, check the Luceo Blog often.

Luceo Images debuts piece at LOOK3: Festival of the Photograph

Posted by admin on Wednesday Jun 10, 2009 Under luceo

My photo collective, Luceo Images will be debuting a group project in the Look3 Theater this week.  We are all pleased to have had the chance to collaborate with Syracuse University’s very own Bruce Strong and two of his extremely talented students, Brad Horn and Brian Dawson, in putting together our little contribution to the event.  David Walter Banks and Matt Eich will also have projects featured in the Slideluck Potshow viewing at Rapture Thursday night.  For folks coming to Look3, we’re all looking forward to catching up. Gonna be some good times and great photography.

Faces, Faces, Faces

Posted by admin on Wednesday May 20, 2009 Under luceo, project

On this past trip to NYC for editor rounds, i realized that editors are busy people and you shouldn’t assume they know you can shoot a solid, beautiful, well-lit portrait by just showing them your favorite documentary images. coming from a newspaper background, i assume the two go hand in hand. wrong. so, i finally added a portrait section to my website: http://kendrickbrinson.com/?g=Faces

it’s funny, really, i’ve always said i hated shooting portraits. i was less interested in directing people and more interested in figuring out what i needed to do to get the best image from a scene i couldn’t control. but sometime in the last two years, i secretly started loving shooting them. i honestly think shooting weddings has made me a better portrait photographer, and whether it’s figuring out the best background or the best light or the best way to tell the story of a person in one image, the challenge is just about as fun to me as shooting documentary photos.

here’s a sneak peek at a huuuuge flipbook portrait series i undertook for one part of Luceo’s multimedia project that will debut at Look3 Festival of the Photograph in June:

From the Look3 site:

After debuting in 2008, the LOOK3 Theater will once again feature a dynamic 2-hour program of provocative and deeply moving multimedia projects. Participants include MediaStorm, Luceo, The New York Times, The Washington Post, many more! The LOOK3 Theater will run on a loop throughout the festival weekend.

…aka it’s gonna be awesome. be there. or be square.

Luceo Images is…

Posted by admin on Thursday Oct 16, 2008 Under luceo

Luceo Images photographer Kevin German took the time to explain the purpose of Luceo Images HERE. The idea of photographers helping one another and banding together in the way we are seems to be a foreign concept to many. It’s not even quite a year since David Walter Banks spoke to me about his idea of forming a collective of his favorite photographers and in these past months we’ve already come such a long way. Can’t wait to see where else we’ll go…
