In line to receive two hands

Posted by admin on Monday Mar 30, 2009 Under Uncategorized

Jeff Kepner lost both his hands and forearms and half of each of his legs nearly 10 years ago. In that time, he’s adapted to life. Where his hands were, now there are hooks; his legs are prosthetic, as well. Now, he is in line to receive America’s first double hand transplant in a medical trial at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, which will give him the sensation of touch again, as well as complete independence. To read The Augusta Chronicle’s Tom Corwin’s three-part piece of Jeff’s life today, please read here and here and here.

Although I’m no longer with The Chronicle, I am hoping to continue this story into its second chapter, when Jeff receives donor hands.
